Useful Links

Below you'll find links to websites that I've personally found useful. Please let me know of any dead links.

BBC Writers Room: Details of how to send spec scripts to the BBC, good list of links to other opportunities, has interviews with producers and writers, and tons more: http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/

Writers Village: Excellent creative writing resource, course, & competition site. Run by somebody who has actually sold a considerable amount of fiction. http://www.writers-village.org/john-yeoman.php

Duotrope:
Essential. It holds listings of over 4,500 possible avenues for publication. It's a real time saver. Without this site there are certain publications I would never have stumbled across. You do have to subscribe but the payments are low. https://duotrope.com/

Screenwriting Goldmine:  Highly recommended if you're interested in screen writing. Loads of useful info from interviews, courses, competitions, etc, etc, etc. Great insight into the industry by Phil Gladwin who works in the industry. Check it out and sign upto the newsletter: http://www.screenwritinggoldmine.com/

Gareth L Powell:  A writer's website, and one that contains loads of tips for the new writer. Check out the Articles section as well as the rest of the site. One of the aforementioned articles contains the best advice regarding submitting a synopsis to a publisher that I've come across so far:  http://www.garethlpowell.com/

Shooting People: Useful for scriptwriters. Ever written a film and want to make it as a low budget indie? Here's a site that allows you to connect with indie film crews. https://shootingpeople.org/home

Preditors & Editors: Essential - You need to check the site: http://pred-ed.com/

Zoetrope: A writers peer review site covering scripts of varying length, flash fiction, short stories, novellas, and a whole lot more: http://www.zoetrope.com/

London Comedy Writers: Loads of useful information including links to writing gigs: http://www.londoncomedywriters.com/

John Jarrold literary Agent and Script Doctor: Without John Jarrold there would be several successful writers who might never have made it. I doubt he's cheap but he's accessible: http://www.johnjarrold.co.uk/

Christopher Fowler's Blog - Author of the Bryant & May stories & much more: Chris has written a 5 part story course which you'll see as a main link on his site. Additionally, it's a really entertaining blog and sometimes the entries do give insights into the writing process: http://www.christopherfowler.co.uk/blog/

Project Gutenberg: Here you'll find over 40,000 public domain ebooks available for download. It's a really good place to hunt down free versions of out of print books. I've used it as a library accessing history books for research. The project aim is to preserve the written word: http://www.gutenberg.org/

Mystery Man on Film: The site is no longer updated but it's packed full of useful information. It's centered on scripts, but discussions on character, plot, structure, and dialogue apply to all forms of fiction: http://mysterymanonfilm.blogspot.co.uk/

Big List of Horror Film Festivals: If you're a horror fan and fancy taking in some horror themed film festivals check this list out. If you're an indie Horror film maker check out the list and submit your film. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. I've noticed that the list was last updated in 2013. But all the festivals I checked were still running. http://www.biglistofhorrorfilmfestivals.com/

Pili Nathaniel Blog's: Her writer's blog: http://www.monkeymonsterthoughts.blogspot.co.uk/  and her Happy Nathaniel blog: http://www.happynathaniel.blogspot.co.uk/   I recommend them both.
